Grill 582

The gates of Grill heaven
Being a hard-to-satisfy foodie has its challenges, and its upsides: such as appreciating a prime steak or freshly caught fish grilled to perfection. So we were eagerly looking forward to our assignation at the nirvana that is Grill 582.
Situated on the second floor of the modern and trendy BEST WESTERN PREMIER Dua Sentral, the restaurant sits right next to the equally hip and subtly lit Punch Bar & Lounge, where guests at the 11th MIGF preview dinner gathered for few welcoming pre-dinner sakitinis (sake, white wine, Longan and Pineapple) and a variety of tasty hors d'oeuvres, including a delightfully decadent Foie Gras Mousse with Caviar, which really set the tone for the evening, and much liked by Dato Frank Steinleitner, CEO of Sekhar Research Innovations Sdn Bhd who enthused “I loved the starter, it was very light and very tasteful”.

The tasteful interior of Grill 582
Then on to Grill 582 itself, where the atmospheric lighting continues, and where the first thing that catches the eye is the list of food quotes, magnificently cut out in steel on the wall containing the entrance to the private dining room. "There is no love sincerer than the love of food" reads one, a fact that undoubtedly resonates with most all Malaysians. It certainly did with the gathered guests, here to experience grill cuisine reputed among the very best in the capital.
Numbered among the gathering were Malaysian Royalty, Ambassadorial representatives, and social and business shakers and movers. They were looking forward to sampling the Malaysian International Gourmet Festival (MIGF) 2013 Festival menu lovingly put together by the cool, young and very talented Chef Siti Arini Darsom, seen as one of the nation’s up-and-coming culinary Queens.

Fois Gras Mousse with Caviar

Seafood Bouillabaisse with Freshwater Crayfish

The soup course opened proceedings – but not your ordinary soup course:  seafood bouillabaisse with freshwater crayfish and a slight Thai twist, infusing coconut and lemongrass notes. Refreshing and beautifully presented, the dish looked as good as it tasted, as noted by Dato' Ruby Kong, President of Kechara Soup Kitchen, “I liked every single dish, however the one that stood out for me was the Seafood Bouillabaisse. It is really hard to get a good Boullabaisse and this was excellent”.

Air-Flown Dover Sole with Plantain Crisp

Sous Vide of Lamb Loin

On to the main event (preluded by a Lime Granitas palate cleanser) there were not one, but two main course dishes, from both land and sea. First up was the Air Flown Dover Sole, a rarity in this part of the world, followed by one of Grill 582's stand out dishes - a magnificent cut of grilled Lamb Loin that simply melted in the mouth. Dato' Noorizah Hj Abdul Hamid, MD of Plus Malaysia Bhd “The Dover Sole was done perfectly; I think the taste was good and the portion presented was just nice and everything was fantastic”.

The diners preparing for their feast
Special mention must also go to the boutique wines paired with the Festival menu. Spanning three continents, each one perfectly complemented the respective dish and added a further dimension to an already outstanding meal.

Chilled Chocolate Chilli Chilliboust

To close, Chef Arini presented her piece-de-resistance, the imaginatively named Chilled Chocolate Chilli Chiliboust. Alliteration aside, this dish was a wickedly sweet-spicy surprise that served as a perfect finale to a magnificent repast. H E Folco de Luca Gabrielli personally loved it, “I give the dessert 20/20, it was really amazing. I love chocolate; it was the perfect texture and had a big spicy after-kick. Quite unique”.

H.E. Folco de Luca Gabrielli thanking the guests and restaurant team
The Ambassador thanked Chef Arini and her team for the wonderful evening and the ever-mercurial Tunku Naquiyuddin followed suit, praising the team and deftly delivering a few trademark jokes that had an appreciative audience laughing uproariously. And so, with many promises of return in the near future, diners departed happily and wholly satisfied.
