PART 2; MIGF DINNER AT THE WESTIN LANGKAWI ENDED WITH A BANG--LITERALLY AS THE SKY EXPLODED WITH FIREWORKS!

KEE@FSWMAG.COM
READERS OF THIS FABULOUS BLOG WILL REMEMBER I WROTE HALF IN JEST THAT OUR MAGNIFICENT DINNER AT PUTRAJAYA MARRIOTT ONLY LACKED A FIREWORK DISPLAY AS A GRAND FINALE...AND WESTIN LANGKAWI MUST HAVE READ MY BLOG AND PANDERED TO MY WHIMSY AS WE WERE GREETED WITH A SPECTACULAR FIREWORKS AS WE STARTED WALKING BACK TO THE HOTEL FROM THE PIER PAVILION WHERE WE ENJOYED DINNER!

What a glorious way to end a dinner---literally with a bang!

The last MIGF dinner at The Float (this is the name of the pavilion at the end of the pier) was extra special as our dinner was the first to celebrate its reopening!

Recalled General Manager Michael Schlueter, "There was a huge storm and a 40-ft yacht crashed into the pier after its anchor got detached during the high winds. It happened around 5 am and the damage was serious."

Added Lim Yap Kiang who repaired and rebuilt the pier, "Luckily the yacht was empty as we believed it was abandoned as we could not trace the owner. It took 3 months to rebuild the pier and this MIGF dinner is the first event after its completion so tonight is a historic event for the record book."

All the guests invited to 30 dinners throughout the near 2-month MIGF did not know each other. While all were introduced to each other at cocktails and name cards exchanged, most did not know the details of each guest apart from their companies.

"What is on the table is just as important as who are at the tables," intoned Dato Steve Day at each MIGF dinner before introducing each guest's biodata. "We have all gone to a dinner or two where we sat next to boring people and had to concentrate on the food! Well, there are NO boring people at a MIGF dinner!"

Dato Steve Day then proceeded to introduce each guest from information emailed to him earlier from the guest and from Internet. Every dinner, I saw him huddled with a guest or two, furiously scribbling the details of 'Greatest Achievements', 'Most Memorable Moments' and ' Philosophy in Life' or something to that effect.

"As we all know, there is no such thing as a free dinner," announced the mischievous Dato Steve Day as the more faint-hearted, panicky guests started taking out their VISA credit cards. "Our duty after tonight is to spread the word about our experiences and the quality of the food we just ate. Tell your friends about the restaurant you  just had dinner and if you are hosting a dinner anytime soon, do think of this restaurant!"

While reading reading aloud the guest's illustrious life, Dato Steve Day could never help spicing and hijacking what was submitted. For example, "Nick's hobbies are music, travelling, reading, charity work and pole dancing". I bet a few innocent souls believed the last entry!
