PUA KUMBU EXHIBITION AT OLD COURT HOUSE, KUCHING SARAWAK AS PART OF RAINFOREST FRINGE FESTIVAL NOW ON TILL 16 JULY 2017. ENTRANCE IS FREE FROM 11 AM TO 9 PM

KEE@FSWMAG.COM

PUA KUMBU IS SARAWAK'S MOST FAMOUS AND PRECIOUS TEXTILES. WOVEN LOVINGLY BY HAND, PUA KUMBU ARE HEIRLOOMS TO BE PASSED DOWN THE GENERATIONS.

Pua Kumbu is more than fabric as they are  infused with religious and spiritual significance. Every design or pattern carries a specific meaning and certain motifs are deemed so powerful and important they can only be woven by experienced and highly skilled weavers as no young upstart would dream of weaving these potent imagery for fear of backlash from spirits.

A most interesting exhibition and you can even buy a pua kumbu to bring home. There are also bags made of pua kumbu but they are not cheap. A piece of fabric or bag costs anything from RM 800 up.
